7/6/98 - The Smuttynose Brewing Co. will unveil its new Portsmouth Lager this weekend. That the local company's latest beer is debuting during the city's 375th birthday is all the more fortuitous, according to a company manager. "It's really more in homage to the 375th," said Smuttynose co-owner Peter Egelston. "We thought it was an appropriate time to release a beer (named) after the city."
Smiles light up Rye
7/6/98 - Rye firefighters served up hot dogs, the Recreation Department sponsored the music, and former Selectman Jack Tobey sent up the fireworks for a crowd-pleasing Fourth of July celebration at Parsons Field last night. An estimated 500 people spread out on blankets and chairs, and watched the fireworks light up the sky against the backdrop of a half-moon. The high, colorful displays and the big bangs brought the biggest "oohs" and "aahs" from the younger crowd.
