Elvira O. Groves

BRENTWOOD - Elvira O. Groves, 82, died Sunday, Dec. 21, 2003, at Rockingham County Nursing Home.

She was born Feb. 16, 1921, in Chicago, the daughter of the late Arthur and Rose (Marzullo) Palermo. She had resided in Atkinson before moving to Brentwood four years ago.

Mrs. Groves was a member of St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church, Hampstead.

The widow of Arthur H. Groves, a retired Chicago police officer who died in 1982, she is survived by two sons, Richard Groves of Atkinson and Arthur Groves Jr. of San Fernando, Calif.; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one sister, Teresa Ciotola of Gainesville, Fla.; one brother, Frank Palermo of Northbrook, Ill.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Memorial services will be held in St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church, Hampstead, at a later date.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church, 187 East Road, Hampstead NH 03841.

Arrangements are by the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, Derry.

Cornelia W. Lafayette

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - Cornelia W. Lafayette, 64, died at York Hospice of North Florida.

She was born in Boston and had resided in St. Augustine for the last nine months.

Mrs. Lafayette and her husband owned and operated Yankee Food Mart in Raymond.

She was a past president of Chio Mega at the University of New Hampshire; president of the Garden Club of Springfield, Va., and was a member of the Eastern Star.

She is survived by her husband, David Lafayette of St. Augustine; one daughter, Aurelie Lafayette of Lee; one son, Geoffrey Lafayette of Madison, Wis.; three grandchildren; and one sister, Jean Padula, of Marlboro, Mass.

Memorial services will be held in Portsmouth at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the Lakes, Palatka, Fla.

Arrangements are by the Craig Funeral Home and Crematory, St. Augustine.

Madeleine R. Woodworth

NORTH HAMPTON – Madeleine R. Woodworth, 93, of 45 South Road, formerly of Towle Avenue, Hampton, died Thursday, Dec. 18, 2003, in Exeter Hospital.

She was born Aug. 13, 1910, in North Andover, Mass., the daughter of the late Arthur and Zelie (Guenette) Auger. She moved to Hampton in 1963 coming from Haverhill, Mass., and for the past five years made her home with her son in North Hampton.

In her earlier years she enjoyed skiing, hiking and camping, and going to the beach for the day. She served as a den mother for the Cub Scouts and was active with the PTA while raising her family. In her later years she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.

Mrs. Woodworth was an avid reader, loved flowers, art history and antiques. Her favorite saint was Saint Augustine, whom she quoted, read and admired.

She was a former communicant of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal Church in Hampton and was a member of the Hampton Garden Club.

The widow of Clarke E. Woodworth, her husband of 59 years who died in 1993, she is survived by one son and his wife, John C. and Julie Woodworth of North Hampton; one daughter, Madeleine J. Woodworth of Kingston; eight grandchildren; four great grandchildren; three sisters; Francoise Whittemore of North Conway, Charlotte Parker of Thermopolis, Wyo., Juliette Stott of Marlborough, Mass.; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Monday in the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, 811 Lafayette Road, Hampton. Burial was in the Maplewood Cemetery, Plaistow.
