Stephen H. Peterson of North Hampton was installed as Potentate for 2005 during the Bektash Shriners Installation of Officers held in January at the Marriott Hotel in Nashua.
Shriners are noted for helping children who have burns or orthopedic problems. Children under 18 receive free medical care at Shriners hospitals.
Potentate Stephen H. Peterson and his wife, Lady Barbara, are looking forward to a full year of activities representing the Shriners of the State of New Hampshire as their Potentate and First Lady for 2005.
Punit Matta, a seventh grade student from Berwick Academy in South Berwick, won the Maine state championship in the third annual Reader’s Digest National Word Power Challenge on March 22. On April 17-19 the state champions and their teacher-escorts will travel to Orlando, Fla. to compete for $50,000 in college scholarships.
Amanda Dennis, daughter of Rob and Kim Dennis, has recently been initiated as an active member of the Delta Beta chapter of Delta Delta Delta sorority at Miami University, Oxford, Ohio.
The following students have been named to the dean’s list at Brandeis University for academic achievement for the fall 2004 semester. Dean’s list honors are awarded to students who have earned a grade-point average of 3.5 or above.

The following students were named to the dean’s list at Bates College as a result of their scholastic standing during the first semester of the 2004-05 academic year. To qualify for dean’s list at Bates, a student must maintain a better than "B-plus" average for the semester, for a minimum quality point ratio of 3.6.
Amy Rosania, the daughter of David and Pamela Rosania of Rye Beach and a first-year student. She is a 2004 graduate of St. Thomas Aquinas High School.
Susan Hawes,the daughter of Evander Hawes and Mary Lin Hanney of Portsmouth and a 2004 graduate of Portsmouth High School.
Jason Rafferty, the son of Richard and Ann Rafferty of Greenland and a senior neuroscience major and philosophy minor. He is a Dana Scholar and a 2001 graduate of St. Thomas Aquinas High School. Rafferty studied in Samoa his junior year and serves on the Trustees Advisory Board.
Erin Record Delaney of Portsmouth, has been named to the dean’s list at the University of New Hampshire for the first semester of the 2004-05 academic year with highest honors. Highest honors are awarded to students who earn a semester grade-point average of 3.7 or better out of a possible 4.0.
Stephanie F. Grant, daughter of Kenneth and Barbara Krant of Portsmouth, has been named Phillips Academy’s honor roll for the winter term. Honor roll students must maintain at least a 5-point average on a 6-point scale. Phillips Academy, better known as Andover, is a co-educational independent boarding high school, founded in 1778.
ChanLing Beswick of Newington and a sophomore at Berwick Academy, was recently admitted to the National Youth Leadership Forum on Technology. From June 27 to July 6, Beswick will join 1,800 high school students from across the United States in San Jose, Ca. for an exploration of the field of technology. Beswick will engage in group and independent projects, including workshops led by industry insiders, product demonstrations, campus visits and tech-commerce encounters.
