Coram A. Bond
WHITEFIELD - Coram A. Bond, 93, of Elm Street, died Tuesday, March 29, 2005, at the Country Village Health Care Center in Lancaster.
He was born in Lancaster, the son of Reuben and Pearl (Coram) Bond. He was a lifelong resident of the area. He was employed for 16 years as district manager for the Babson Brothers Dairy Equipment Co. in Syracuse, N.Y., and he also served as manager of the former Northern Hardware Store and later the Fletcher Paint & Hardware Store, both of Littleton.
He served as a Whitefield selectman for several years. Through his efforts, the town received all new railroad crossings with flashing signal lights. He was also instrumental in bringing cable television to the community.
During the 1930s, he had a 14-piece dance band, the Royal Serenaders, and they played at most North Country dances. He will be fondly remembered for his quick wit and humor that enlivened any place he went.
He was a 32nd degree Mason. He was a member of the North Star Lodge in Lancaster; the Lodge of Perfection in Lancaster; Prince of Jerusalem & Rose Croix in Littleton; and Bektash Temple in Concord. He was a past president of the Berlin Kiwanis Club and a life member of the Littleton Lodge of Elks 1831.
He was predeceased by his wife of 52 years, Lucy, in 1992; and his daughter-in-law, Rita Bond.
He is survived by a daughter, Carolyn L. Bond of Boscawen; two sons, George T. Bond of Antrim and James A. Bond and his wife, Teresa, of Stratham; two grandchildren, Lori McCullough and Christopher Bond; and one great-grandson, Samuel McCullough.
BOND - Coram A. Bond, 93, of Whitefield, died Tuesday, March 29, 2005 in Lancaster. Antoria D. Wright
KITTERY POINT, Maine - Antoria Dahlen (Grant) Wright, 74, of Tenney Hill Road in Kittery Point, Maine, died on Wednesday, March 30, 2005, at York Hospital following a two-month courageous battle with cancer, with her loving and devoted husband and daughters, along with their families, at her side day and night.
She was born in Stockholm, Maine, on Sept. 30, 1930, the daughter of Andrew and Magndild (Myhr) Dahlen. She attended schools in Stockholm and Patten Academy when her family moved to Patten, Maine.
She married her first love at a young age, a boy from the neighboring town of Crystal, David Grant. Shortly after their marriage, they moved to Kittery Point, where they raised two daughters. When the girls grew older, Antoria trained to be and became a cosmetologist and operated a salon that her husband, David, constructed in their home. She attended the First Christian Church in Kittery Point and was a former Sunday school teacher and member of the AMICUS Club.
She is survived by her loving husband, Bob Wright, whom she wed on May 11, 1991; her daughters and sons-in-law, Vicky and Eric Fillion and Laurie Dewhurst and Steve Sawyer; her grandchildren, Troy Dewhurst and his wife, Kristen, Jeff Dewhurst, Chad Fillion, and Paige Fillion; her great-grandchildren, Phenix and Drake Dewhurst and twins Aubrie and Torrie Fillion; her brother and sister-in-law, Marvin and Ofelia Dahlen; her sisters, Karen Dahlen Hall of Patten, Maine, and Connie Dahlen Jones of Freeport, Maine; many nieces and nephews; and her beloved lifelong friends.
She was predeceased by her parents and husband, David Grant.
Antoria was a kind, generous and accepting friend, with a keen sense of humor. She enjoyed vacations in Nashville with her husband; going out to eat with her husband and friends and family; her Christmas Eve open house, which she especially enjoyed this past year; and most of all, she treasured the time spent with her very close and loving family. She will be deeply and forever missed by all who knew her.
Her family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at York Hospital who provided such compassionate care to her and her family.
WRIGHT - Antoria Dahlen (Grant) Wright, 74, of Tenney Hill Road in Kittery Point, Maine, died on March 30, 2005, at York Hospital following a courageous battle with cancer. A funeral will be celebrated on Sunday at 2 p.m. at the J.S. Pelkey Funeral Home, 125 Old Post Road, Kittery. Friends may visit with Antoria’s family on Saturday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Nicholas Addorio
PORTSMOUTH - Nicholas P. Addorio, 94, of 46 Sheffield Road, died Tuesday, March 29, 2005, at the home of his son in Greenland.
Born in Portsmouth on Jan. 9, 1911, he was the son of Camillo and Carmella (DeMatteo) Addorio and was a lifelong resident of Portsmouth. He served in the U.S. Army infantry during World War II in the European theater and was member of the fighting force during the Battle of the Bulge, earning two Purple Hearts.
Nick was employed as a barber with Joe Mangano. After Joe’s death, he took ownership of the shop.
He was a member of the Sons of Italy, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion and Disabled American Veterans, and he was a founding member of St. James Church. He enjoyed fishing, clamming and watching golf and was an avid walker.
His wife, Josephine (Bisognani) Addorio, died in 1971. Survivors include his son, Ronald Addorio and his wife, Ellen, of Greenland; his grandchildren, John Addorio and Martha Addorio of Greenland; his brother Joseph Addorio and his wife, Beulah, of Portsmouth; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a sister, Anna Ricci; and brothers Paul, Anthony, Dennis and Constantine Addorio.
ADDORIO - Nicholas Addorio, 94, of Sheffield Road in Portsmouth, died March 29, 2005. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Catherine of Siena Church by the Rev. Eugene W. Tapscott
ROCHESTER - Eugene W. "Tappy" Tapscott, 74, of Rochester, died Monday, March 21, 2005, while vacationing with his wife on a Princess Line Cruise.
Born in Exeter on Aug. 9, 1930, he was the son of William A. and Euphemie F. (Picard) Tapscott. He was raised in Somersworth and graduated from Holy Trinity Grammar School and Somersworth High School. He and his wife, Marcia, moved from Somersworth to Rochester nine years ago.
He retired from General Electric Co. of Somersworth, where he had a long and distinguished career as a machinist and setup man with more than 41 years of service.
From 1948 to 1966, he was a member of the N.H. National Guard with Battery B in Somersworth and served in the communication section. For most of his adult life, he enjoyed the outdoors and hunting. He was a member of the Elks of Rochester.
Family members include his wife and companion of 36 years, Marcia (Blaisdell) Tapscott of Rochester; a son, Tom Tapscott and wife, Audrey, of Marco Island, Fla.; two daughters, Donna Cisewski and husband, Michael, of Raymond, and Jill Tapscott-Parizo and husband, Robert, of Portsmouth; a stepdaughter, Debra Lancaster of Rochester; a stepson, David Blaisdell and his wife, Nan, of Millersville, Pa.; his sisters, Geraldine Skrob of Hendersonville, N.C., and Barbara LeBlond and her husband, Ronald, of Tewskbury, Mass.; 11 grandchildren; his aunts and uncle, Arlene and Harold Cole and Dorothy Tapscott; and nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by a son, Bruce William Tapscott; and sisters Helen Mondino, Joan Lavertu and Priscilla Tapscott.
TAPSCOTT - Eugene W. "Tappy" Tapscott, 74, of Rochester, died March 21, 2005. Calling hours will be held on Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Bernier Funeral Home, 49 South St., Somersworth. Muriel Cummings
DOVER - Muriel (Zinck) Cummings, 71, of 56 Piscataqua Road, died on Tuesday, March 29, 2005, after collapsing in Durham.
She will be deeply missed by her family and friends. She was known for her words of wisdom and concern for others. She devoted her life to those people she loved.
Born in Cambridge, Mass., on May 8, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Melton and Katherine (Wishart) Zinck.
Muriel was a member of the Grace Baptist Church in East Rochester, where she served on the missionary committee. She was a graduate of Spaulding High School, class of 1951, and Burdett College in Boston.
She was employed in earlier years at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, then stayed home to raise her children for many years. In 1988, she started working part time at UNH Health Services and was still working there at the time of her death. She enjoyed working and made some wonderful friends who were with her when she collapsed. She was highly involved in local environmental issues and was a founding member of two Seacoast conservation organizations.
She loved her husband, Stewart. They were married for 47 years and had three sons and four grandchildren. Education was one of Muriel’s top priorities for her sons.
Spending time in their summer home on Gerrish Island with her family was special. She and her husband were excellent bargain shoppers. She loved to go out to eat and knew many special spots. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, mother-in-law, niece, sister-in-law and friend to many. Last Thanksgiving, she and her husband had a trip of a lifetime going to Europe to visit their son Neil. She spoke many times of the wonderful trip they had together. She befriended anyone, anywhere, in any language.
Besides her husband, Stew, members of her family include three sons, Drs. Dana and Jennifer Cummings, Neil Cummings, MSME, and Dr. Derek Cummings and his wife, Evie; four special grandchildren, Luke, Andrew, Ben and Sarah Kate; two brothers, Melton Zinck of Nashua and Gilbert Zinck of Lebanon, Maine; two sisters, Janet Furbush and her husband, Ronald, and Sylvia Warren of Rochester; and nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents and one brother, Stanley Zinck.
CUMMINGS - Muriel (Zinck) Cummings, 71, of 56 Piscataqua Road, died on Tuesday, March 29, 2005, after collapsing in Durham. Family and friends may visit Friday from 6-9 p.m. at the R.M. Edgerly & Son Funeral Home, 86 S. Main St., Rochester. The funeral service will be Saturday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of the funeral home, with the Rev. William Powell of Grace Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in Cold Spring Cemetery in East Rochester at a later date. Albert B. LaValley
PORTSMOUTH - Funeral services for Albert Benjamin "Al" LaValley, 87, were held at the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home-Buckminster Chapel in Portsmouth on Tuesday, March 29, 2005. The Rev. Gordon Allen officiated. Words of remembrance were given by Debbie Clapp.
In attendance were representatives from the American Legion, Frank E. Booma Post 6 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Emerson Hovey Post 168.
Burial will be in Harmony Grove Cemetery, Portsmouth, in the spring.
VFW services were held at the funeral home on Monday evening by members of the Emerson Hovey Post 168, including Carl B. Walton, post commander; Paul Schurman, second vice commander; Paul Cushing, quartermaster; Paul Chevalier, post chaplain; Brenda Walton, auxiliary president; Ruth Walton, first vice president; John Lorenz, post commander; and Kathie Goodwin, Betty Lorenz and Jody Cassidy.
American Legion services were held at the funeral home by members of the Frank E. Booma Post 6, including Richard Brooks, commander; Dustie Richard, chaplain; Dan Yoder, color guard; Earl Pettiford, color guard; George McCall, color guard; and Sheila Brooks, junior vice, Unit 6.
